FINS was established in 2011 to meet the ever-increasing need for real-time access to standardized hatchery data. The development and maintenance scope are prioritized collaboratively with guidance from FINS Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and Steering Committee. The PSMFC FINS Team, manages and is responsible for the design and implementation of the database and user applications. 

Steering Committee

The committee provides management-level guidance, as it assists in determining development priorities to ensure requests are aligned with the visions and goals. Assistance also includes addressing coordination and funding issues, prioritizing database refinements, and evaluating progress toward the program’s mission.

Members represent entities utilizing FINS on a regional or program level. Staffing and project oversight is provided by the PSMFC.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with PSMFC to prioritize development of enhancements
  • Review and assist with refining PSMFC’s annual statement of work
  • Coordinate with other funding agencies regarding FINS administration
  • Represent the funding interests and needs of each entity

Technical Advisory Committee

The committee provides technical input on functionality and provides feedback on beta and final products. Members provide recommendations to the Steering Committee to inform task prioritization.

The committee consists of complex managers, hatchery managers, hatchery monitoring and evaluation biologists, and other data entry coordinators. These representatives are identified by the PSMFC FINS Team Project Manager and Steering Committee members. 

Membership is developed collaboratively and reviewed annually by the PSMFC FINS Team Project Manager and Steering Committee.

Responsibilities

  • Discuss use cases and provide feedback to the Steering Committee on need and priority
  • Participate in demonstrations, testing, and provide feedback when requested
  • Work with respective agency and steering committee members to ensure the use cases that are discussed are reasonable and appropriate for their agencies
  • Request review/approval from the steering committee when decisions affect agency policies or approved project milestone dates
  • Request other people at future TAC as specific expertise is needed
  • Vet peer and agency requested features and enhancements
